Learning Disabilities?
Our mission statement at Birkenhead YMCA is “Helping to build positive futures and overcome barriers for people of all ages”.
We welcome people with learning disabilities to use our facilities and are keen to offer our help to organisations wishing to enable the people they work with and support to access the superb inland waterways of England and gain new skills in the process.
Would like to Try but don’t know how?
Then why not take a course with our very own Royal Yachting Association (RYA) instructor?
You could learn the basic skills of canal-boating very quickly.
The historic Trent and Mersey Canal in Cheshire is part of a whole network of inland waterways that covers over 2,200 miles of the country's canals and rivers. The T&M is rich in heritage, abundant in wildlife and alive with culture; the canal is a popular cruising route. Our narrow-boat Potential is moored close-by to the world famous Anderton Boat Lift at Anderton near Northwich.
More information on our training programs can be found on our Y Cruise Training page.
CRUISING IN FAR OFF WATERS
The boat is an excellent base for team building and developing leadership qualities or simply a superb way to relax and slow down and learn new skills in a totally unique learning environment.
We also have a boat on the Norfolk Broads which we use for specialist in-house training on the UK’s largest and finest wetland areas. It’s waterways, marsh and woodlands offer unrivalled beauty and peace with scenic views of church towers and windmills along with abundant wildlife including many rare butterflies. Some of the nature reserves here can only be visited by boat.
We work with the highly respected Broads Authority who via their team at How Hill, help us deliver environmental training and raise awareness as to the importance of the wetlands area and its heritage.
