The annual waterways festival was held at Middlewich this year and we were asked to go along to display our boat and help with the operations at the Middlewich Big Lock working in partnership with the respected and highly regarded Trent and Mersey Canal Society.

The event was a huge success and everyone who attended got a lot out of the four days.

BYMCA resident Tony Carroll who has developed a strong interest in the waterways and maritime activities and undertaken many hundreds of hours of voluntary work and work experience at Anderton Marina, but also on working parties along the Trent and Mersey Canal, impressed Society members by his commitment and dedication allied to his keen interest in all things relating to boats.

BYMCA is sponsoring Tony to take part in the Three Legs of Mann tall ships race later this year and as part of the project Tony has to raise £250 himself to take part in this event. Before departing on the Sunday afternoon Malcolm Turner the Society's former Chairman presented Tony Carroll with a donation from the Society towards his personal fund raising – commenting – "Well done Tony you are a great hardworking asset to this waterway and we have all been inspired hearing and seeing how you have turned your life around as a result of your interest in canals – we have all agreed that the proceeds raised this weekend should go towards your project to sail on the tall ship and we wish you well in that venture".
